Alicia has been a Certified Equine Sport Massage Therapist for approximately 7 years now. She completed her certification under Jodi Pendry in Erin, Ontario and ever since then has ensured she has stayed up to date on new techniques and therapeutic practices. Alicia became interested in learning massage herself when she saw the benefits it gave her horse. She was intrigued and motivated to learn even more about horse physiology and anatomy so that she could be more involved in the physical maintenance of her hard-working animal. Equine massage quickly became more of a rewarding passion for Alicia which she then decided to offer as a service to others in hopes she could help their horses as well.
Massage therapy has many benefits to a horse’s overall health including:
• Reduced recovery time for fatigued muscles
• Increase in muscle efficiency and muscle tone
• Decrease in muscle spasms
• Restoration of extensibility and deformation of muscle with the manipulation of adhesions or scarring
• Increase in range of motion
• Increased circulation
• Relaxation of the nervous system and stimulation of muscle fibres
• Assists in lymphatic flow
When doing the initial massage for your horse, Alicia will assess the horse’s confirmation and general well-being. This will include getting some preliminary information about the horse including age, workload, breed and past injuries or issues. She will then do a hands on assessment to gain a feel for where work may be required.
Massages usually last anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour in length. Follow up massage will be recommended based on what is found during the session.
